Curriculum Overview for Carl Sandburg High School Physical Education 

Carl Sandburg High School offers a wide variety of programs students can choose from. All students in some time during their stay must take a swimming course, one lifelong activities course, and two semesters of sports courses. However, lifelong physical activities courses, strength and conditioning, and outdoor activities classes are reserved for juniors and seniors. Juniors and seniors may not repeat the same class two consecutive semesters. Below is a list of available courses for fall and spring semesters.

 Fall semester:

Sports course:  Course may include but not limited to: flag football, soccer, volleyball, floor hockey

Swimming: Course may include but not limited to: strokes, diving, water Polo

Dance: Course may include but not limited to: partner dancing, introduction to modern dance, zumba

Strength and conditioning: Course may include but not limited to: free weight training, body resistance training, cardiovascular endurance training

Lifelong Physical Activities Course: Course may include but not limited to: cycling, golf, archery

Spring semester:

Sports course:  Course may include but not limited to: basketball, badminton, wrestling, ultimate frisbee

Swimming: Course may include but not limited to: strokes, diving, water Polo

Strength and conditioning: Course may include but not limited to: free weight training, body resistance training, cardiovascular endurance training

Lifelong Physical Activities Course: Course may include but not limited to: rollerblading, mountain biking, bowling

Outdoor Activities Course: Course may include but not limited to: camping, rock climbing, orienteering
